     FOCUS on Mentoring partners with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta to assist in recruiting volunteers for Cherokee County children and their parents interested in obtaining a mentor through this agency. 

 

     Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta is a private, nonprofit organization and an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta.  Founded in 1960, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta serves more than 2,700 children annually making it one of the largest affiliated agencies in the United States.

 

Mission:

     Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta (BBBS) exists to transform the community by providing and supporting meaningful one-to-one friendships between children and caring well-trained volunteers.

 

Vision:

     We teach children to dream and to succeed.  With our powerful combination of volunteer leadership, internal expertise and external leverage, we create a community of mentors committed to the children of Atlanta.

 

Volunteers:

     Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age or volunteers may be 17 years of age and in college.  The selection process for volunteers is comprehensive and includes an in-depth interview, background check and reference checks.  Volunteers receive ongoing to develop and maintain mentoring skills, learning styles and empowerment.  Volunteers receive continuous support from trained professionals within the organization.
